Kabwe port is situated on the shores of Lake Tanganyika and was officially opened last year.

It is located between the mineral rich towns of Moba and Kalemiè make it strategic for movement of good and services between the DRC and Tanzania thereby boosting cross-border trade.

Citizens from DRC depend on Nkasi for cereal produce, cement and other building materials. The port acts as a gateway opportunity for traders as well as small farmers to supply goods and services to Moba and Kalemiè.

Moba port lies about 24 kilometres from Kabwe and 78 kilometres from Kalemiè port.

Additionally, Kalemiè is linked by air and train with Lubumbashi in Katanga Province, which is the third largest city of DRC. Traders and farmers in Nkasi expressed optimism that the construction of Kabwe port will boost cross border business.
